Where to find it
On Gehl skid steers the model and serial decal is commonly on the left chassis upright, and is also found on the main frame near the operator’s seat or on the front of the right-hand lift-arm support. The VIN label moved over the years: on older machines it is on the right side at the rear of the machine under the right support arm, and on newer machines it is on the rear left (highway) side, the same style as Bobcat and Caterpillar. Track loaders (RT) and telehandlers (RS) use product plates and stamped serials. Clean any dirt or paint that hides the number.
Finding the year
A Gehl serial number does not give you the model year on its own. Use the serial number to pull the correct machine documentation, or give the full model and serial to a Gehl dealer, who can confirm the year and exact specification.

Frequently asked
Where is the serial number on a Gehl skid steer?
The model and serial decal is commonly on the left chassis upright, and also near the operator’s seat on the main frame or on the front of the right-hand lift-arm support. A VIN label is on the rear (right side on older machines, left side on newer ones).
Can you tell the year from a Gehl serial number?
No. A Gehl serial does not encode the model year on its own. Use it to pull the correct documentation, or give the full model and serial to a Gehl dealer to confirm the year.
Where is the serial on a Gehl track loader?
Gehl track loaders (RT series) and telehandlers (RS series) use product plates and stamped serials as documented in their manuals; check the chassis and frame, and clean any paint or dirt covering the number.
