Information you provide
- Contact details — for example, an email address you give us to watch a record, submit a contribution, send a report, or contact us.
- Contributed content — equipment records, corrections, and theft or lien reports you submit, including the make, model, serial or VIN, and any notes you include.
Information collected automatically
- Log and device data — standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, referring pages, and timestamps, used for security and to operate the Service.
- Usage data — aggregate, non-identifying analytics about how the Service is used.
We do not ask for, and you should not submit, government identification numbers, payment card numbers, or other sensitive personal information.
2. How we use information
- to provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
- to respond to your requests and send you notifications you asked for, such as when a watched record changes;
- to review and moderate contributions and reports;
- to protect the security and integrity of the Service and prevent abuse; and
- to comply with legal obligations.
3. Contributions may be public
Equipment records and related information you contribute may be displayed publicly on the Service as part of a machine’s history. Do not include information you want to keep private. Your email address is used for account, notification, and moderation purposes and is not published as part of a public record.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- with service providers that host and operate the Service on our behalf (for example, our cloud hosting and database provider), under confidentiality obligations;
- when required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service; and
- as aggregated or de-identified data that does not reasonably identify you.
5. Cookies and local storage
The Service uses only the cookies and local storage necessary to function and to remember basic preferences. We do not use advertising cookies. You can control or clear cookies through your browser settings; some features may not work without them.
6. Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here, to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Contributed records may be retained as part of the historical database. You can ask us to delete personal information as described below.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond consistent with applicable law, including Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and, where they apply, the GDPR and CCPA. You may also ask us to stop sending you notifications at any time.
9. Children
The Service is not directed to children and is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International users
We operate from Canada and may process information in Canada, the United States, and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in those countries.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when we post them and update the “Last updated” date above.
