Start with the business end. Check the moldboard (blade) cutting edge and end bits for how much is left, then check the circle, the large ring that rotates and holds the blade, for wear and slop, along with the circle drive. A worn circle is a common and costly problem on high-hour graders, so play here is a real negotiating point.
Articulation, tandems and powertrain
Check the articulation joint and the front axle and wheel lean for wear, and look the frame over for cracks. Inspect the rear tandems (the drive housings and chains) and listen to the transmission and differential for whining. Work all the blade hydraulics, lift, shift, tilt and angle, watching for leaks and drift.
Options, hours and value
